Yesterday, Nintendo Of America posted this image of their mascot Mario.
It is an understatement, to say this thing is absolutely terrifying. Who thought this would be a good idea, lets find the scariest Mario costume with eyes as dead as a corpse and have him peering at you behind a curtain people will love that. WELL NINTENDO WE DON’T.
Here are a few reactions
However what did excite us was what was below the image, text saying that soon they will announce the Nintendo NX and Nintendo did certainly not disappoint.
They released the First Look at their new console renamed to “Nintendo Switch”.
The first thing we see in the trailer is a man sitting on his couch playing “Breath Of The Wild”. The music then suddenly goes up-beat and a red title slide with the Nintendo Switch logo appears. Followed by the man getting up and walking towards the console where we get our first good look at the system
We can see that it is not our typical system, the base of the system is not in the same sense a box based console but, a dock that the console goes inside.
The dock has a nice big image of the logo on the front, I personally don’t really like the logo at the moment but i’m sure it will grow on me. There is a LED power button and on the back two holes for cables (assumingly power and HDMI).
The dock seems to power the console, which is just a screen in the middle. It will be interesting to see whether it will have more powerful processors packed in the dock to make the screen run faster then in the tablet.
Then we get to see our first form of “Switch” a form similar to the past Wii U Game-pad except it is remarkably thinner and a lot wider. It is unclear at the moment whether it will have touch screen capabilities.
This seems to be the form people will use the most as is in a carry around state, with the most controls.
It then confirms the rumours that the Switch will use cartridges which seem to be identical to those of the DS.
The next form is so incredible and will defiantly be the state I will use the most. You take the controllers off the sides and use them in your hand.
This shows a kick stand something new for Nintendo and the controllers on there own which is very odd and a weird way to play because you would have them both in each hand one with a stick one with buttons it would take a lot of time to get used to playing.
We also see Skyrim, Definitive Edition a game different from Nintendo’s last line-up. This was one of the biggest problems with the Wii U because it didn’t have the triple-A audience mainstream audiences wanted. It seems Nintendo is learning from its problems.
The pro-controller looks mostly the same to the last one, with the Wii U but it seems they have modified the hold to address a lot of discomfort problems.
We then get to see two people playing a “Mario Kart” game it dose seem to be a new game in the series as it has King Boo as a playable character and has stacked items.
We also two people using the controllers with local multiplayer. The design layout looks a lot like the NES.
A group of basket-ballers then take a break to play NBA were we see a feature where you can play with 4 players by placing two system back to back to connect up a very cool feature.
The next scene shows a brand new 3-D Mario game that is very exciting, it also shows a girl playing with a breaker in the middle of the two switch controllers which does not feel comfortable and I really hope Nintendo tries to focus more towards the Pro Controller for at home gaming.
The next 30 seconds is dedicated towards Splatoon and the E-Sports Community a big part of gaming at the moment. It is unclear whether this is a version of Splatoon modified for Switch or a new game which seems unlikely looking at Nintendo’s past release schedules.
The Switch seems to have a lot of similarities of the DS which seems like Nintendo is going to kill almost it’s biggest console of all time something they have been relying on throughout poor Wii U sales. This console is a massive risk for Nintendo getting rid of two systems for a new one. Yet I think from first impressions the Switch is going to be massive hit and a return to Nintendo Glory and can not wait to get my hands on it come next march.
